San Diego Bat Removal Tip:

Will Ammonia and Mothballs be Effective Against Bats?

In case you have a bat infestation in your house, you are probably looking for a convenient method to get rid of them. You know how sensitive this situation is since there are species of bats that are protected under the federal law. Disturbing the bats and its roosting ground can lead to legal issues. Nonetheless, bats are carrier of parasites and you need to get them out of your property immediately.

Mothballs are Ineffective against Bats

Perhaps most of us have tried the use of mothballs when repelling bat activities. They are composed of pesticides with naphthalene and paradichlorobenzene as their active compound. Originally, these products are used in keeping the moths away. However, after discovering that prolonged exposure on mothballs will be detrimental to our health, some municipalities have banned the use of this.

When using this against bat, you need to know if this will deliver you a desirable result. While you may think that this can be effective against moths, it does not have the capacity to drive away the bats. In some instances, the chemical content in the bats can cause discomfort on the bats, but this will not be enough to keep them off our property. When searching for a roosting place, the bats will consider the safety of the space. It must protect them against weather and predators. The irritating scent of the mothballs will not discourage them from invading your house that is free from predator and safe from the weather elements.

You should also consider that the bats will not stay in one area of your house. They can simply move to another room of your house if they feel any form of discomfort. The active compounds of the mothballs are also carcinogenic. Therefore, you should try to look for a better option.

Ammonia Will Not Deliver a Long-Term Solution against Bat Infestation

People have been using ammonia for years to repel the bats. The vapor that is being released by the ammonia is considered toxic. It will not be safe to use as a repellent since the vapor will fill the entire space. In addition, ammonia is also not effective against bats. At most, it can only provide you with a temporary solution. Bats can easily get accustomed to the change in smell. The vapors will also dissipate fast and you will need to replace it periodically.

Ammonia is not a smart choice as bat repellent. They will probably be forced to relocate in the obscure areas of your house that will make the removal process more difficult. Most of the states have also banned the use of ammonia after they discovered the adverse effect of this product.

Before you use mothballs and ammonia against bats, you should remind yourself about the better alternatives. These control methods might need more effort on your part, but it will be very effective against bat problems. If you are not confident and comfortable in handling them, there are bat specialists that can help you choose the better solution for the bat invasion.
